2008 CAMOS-Journal of Strategic Studies Graduate Student Paper Award

The Committee for the Analysis of Military Operations and Strategy (CAMOS), an affiliated group of the American Political Science Association, in conjunction with The Journal of Strategic Studies, announces its 2008 competition for best graduate student paper in the field of strategic studies. The prize will consist of a certificate and $150 cash award to be presented at the 2008 APSA annual meeting in Boston. The winning paper will be published in The Journal of Strategic Studies, with special acknowledgment as the year's prize winner.

Criteria for selection include originality, rigor, theoretical contribution, relevance to important policy issues, and power of expression. Consideration will be limited to papers that address the con-duct, planning, or outcomes of military operations and strategy. There is no required length or format, but scholarly research of 5,000-10,000 word, journal-article length is appropriate. To be eligible, papers must have been written between June 1, 2007 and May 31, 2008 by students enrolled in masters or PhD programs at that time. Papers must not have been previously published or under consideration for publication. The committee reserves the right not to award a prize in a given year.

Eligibility is not limited to political scientists. Submissions from graduate students in history, public policy, public administration, operations research, economics, sociology or other disciplines with an interest in strategic studies will also be considered.

Nominations may be submitted by authors, faculty advisors, department chairs, or other scholars familiar with the research, and should comprise two printed copies of the paper, an electronic file with all text and supporting figures or tables, and a cover letter with the nomineeís complete contact information.


2008 CAMOS Dissertation Award

The Committee for the Analysis of Military Operations and Strategy (CAMOS), an affiliated group of the American Political Science Association, announces its fourth annual prize for best doctoral dissertation in the field of strategic studies. The prize will consist of a certificate and $200 cash award to be presented at the 2008 APSA annual meeting in Boston.

Criteria for selection include originality, rigor, theoretical contribution, relevance to important policy issues, and power of expression. Consideration will be limited to dissertations that address the conduct, planning, or outcomes of military operations and strategy. Only completed dissertations will be considered. Dissertations completed or defended in the period June 1, 2007 to May 31, 2008 will be considered for the 2008 prize. The committee reserves the right not to award a prize in a given year.
